L 3-1

We Be Ballin'

Hooligans of Toronton FC

Unlike their Rush League counterparts, the mid-week TSSL Hooligans have had a season to forget. With just 2 league wins all season, a weakened and short staffed Hooligan side faced a Ballers team who clearly wanted revenge for being dispatched 5-2 on aggregate by Hooligans in the Divisional Cup.

Hooligans started the match with 9 men and they hung on to at 0-0 until a couple more players showed up. The Ballers side knew Hooligans were undermanned and pushed hard for a goal in the first half. Keeper Jorge Caxaj did his best Edwin Van Der Sar impression with a few acrobatic saves and kept the match goalless into the half.

The 2nd half had a few altercations on the pitch. The Ballers needed to show who had the muscle and attitude as they truly are the most important dudes on the planet. Late in the game is when the fireworks started. After a foul called against Hooligans, Ballers scored on the free kick. About 2 minutes later they added a second goal to go up 2-0. Many Ballers could be seen packing up on the sidelines, already proclaiming victory while making fun of some Hooligans players along the sidelines, one would suppose for not fighting back after getting punched etc etc etc.

With about 5 minutes left in the game, Tom O'Callaghan cut the lead in half with an excellent volley which he chipped over an on-rushing keeper. O'Callaghan who went to try and retrieve the ball from the goal was shoved by the Ballers keeper. Another huge shoving match ensued, and the Ballers keeper knocked over O'Callaghan and then kicked him when he was on the ground. Thankfully the referee saw the classy move by the keeper and sent him off.

A couple minutes later, Hooligans drew a foul about 25 yards from goal. Todor Kobakov lined up to take the kick and smashed it home from distance for his first goal of the season. It took a slight deflection, but it capped off a wonderful performance by the team. The match ended 2-2. The Hooligans 11 that played should be proud of their accomplishment. It was a huge team effort all over the pitch. Todor, Tom, Parker, Kostovski (2), Colangelo (2), Tice, Monte, Stephen and Jorge all played their butts off to earn a very important point for the team as they try to fight off relegation.

In other news, Sporting Beer Guts lost over the weekend to Beaches Gunners in the Toronto Rush league, opening the door for Hooligans to take the Rush Sunday Division Two title. Hooligans need to beat Los Pelados and East York City and they'll be guaranteed to win the regular season championship. Their next match is September 6th v Los Pelados. The Sunday side round out the regular season on September 11th v East York City at Birchmount Stadium. Come out and support the team.
